Jajah or Nonoh? Review the race to the bottom.

Wednesday, August 22, 2007

Upstart VoIP service nonoh thinks it can save you more money than its predecessor, jajah. Both are phone-to-phone services, which means you just initiate the call on their website, and the service calls both parties and connects them to each other at lower rates than the regular phone companies. This comes in handy mostly for international calls, especially for those countries in which there is a telecom monopoly with outrageous long distance fees.

Bhagaban
points out that the service was developed by Betamax, and that there are some amazing deals to certain countries.

For example, you can make free calls to China, Taiwan, and Thailand. Even South Korea and Turkey made the list of free destinations.

Vinay adds:

Nonoh bluntly says we offer better rates than Jajah and well they seriously do. Who on earth gives free calls to countries like Brazil, Japan and Malaysia? I have some countries which can't even dream to be in the free VOIP country list. NoNoh has simply cracked the market with this FREE VOIP calling service
Over at Computerwoche (German) they remind us that nonoh only allows 5 hours of talk time per week, and your credit expires after 120 days.

This 120 day credit expiration limit seems to be a trademark of Betamax, so that you will continue to pay $10 every four months in order to keep making free calls.

Full rates table at http://www.nonoh.net/en/rates.html

Have you tried it? What did you think?

Nonoh wants to install something on computer when try to buy credit, What does this mean, never saw this condition. Also when i first time called from it at local number in US call got disconnected after 8.40 minutes saying maximun limit of free calls reached.

Guys, I have not been able to buy credit at Nonoh. I downloaded the softaware and ran it normally but even that doesn't help, cause when I click on the box:"I have been verified" it gives me the message:"Verification failed! Please download and run the verification program and try again". Why is this happening. Do you think it's because I'm doing in a computer in Brazil?

nonoh!! they are cheaters!!

I put 10 euros yesterday. Made a call home for 2 euros. And now I am having 8 euros in my account and cant make any call, they say due to an unknown error the phone was ended!

I have 2 more friends, and the same happened to them! First the calling was free and now after having put some money online, they cant make a call!

they cant use the money they put! And the amount is so less 8 euros that you cant go to the court and complain! Man we have to find a solution agaist these cheaters!!

Thats the way how they earn money!

I put money too, after that i did make free calls, but after another 1 week, i couldn't make free call, every call was charged 2 Euro cents ,saying "This Phone-to-Phone conversation has exceeded our FUP (Fair Use Policy) therefore you have been charge our standard rates for this call"

After the trial period on my free acount ended I decided that I liked the service Jajah offered. I wanted to add some credit to my Jajah account using my credit card. After selecting "add $5.00US" credit and confirming that was indeed what I had selected, I clicked "pay now". Everthing good right? No, my credit card was charged $50.00US instead of the $5 that I selected from the drop down menu the site provided.
Now to try to get ahold of Jajah customer service with an email to try to fix the situation. No problem. Wrong, four emails later I'm still waiting to hear back from them!
Lets try their Forums after signing up I waited two days for a confermation email to be sent so I could activate my account. No email. Back to the site to resend confermation email, still no email.
Today I sign back into my Jajah account, and what's that? Remaining credit - zero dollars???
I'm really not sure what is going on at Jajah.com but it doesn't seem to be in my favor.
Let's see if Visa can do anything about it.

Jajah.com
Be very careful!

ivan_mos ... FUP exeeded after u call 1 hour a day to a free country. But u can call 2 another free destination and no FUP messege will appear... so... 1 hour a day, 300 mins a week are free and no cheating! . STFU

I am in Canada, and purchased 10 euros time on nonoh. I have only managed to make calls using thier demo on the website, none have completed using my purchased time! I recieve an error message saying this call was not allowed, or something to that effect. I've just tried to use it again, and, I guess my time is up, because it says I now have no credit, and it's asking for more, fat chance!!!! All I HAD got was the friggin error message all the time with no place to complain, no person to help me hook up, no calls went through, only the 10 minute demo calls! You want to watch your money go POOF, GONE, give nonoh a try, they will do it for you, and waste plenty of your time trying to find out why! Why it won't work and any way to possibly get it to work. There is only a FAQ page, with my error message not included NOR with any answers or suggestion on how to get it to work. If this service works for you magically, then you are one of the lucky ones, but you'ld better hope nothing ever goes wrong!
I think I couldn't connect because my service provider is in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada and the IP comes up as being in Africa somewhere in Mali because of how the connection is made, and nonoh uses that to deny the connection. -But I'm only guessing, as THERE HAS BEEN NO WAY OF ACTUALLY TALKING WITH ANY REAL PERSON TO FIND OUT! THEY TOOK MY MONEY FIRST, THEN DENIED ME ACCESS! They should offer a free test call of the system before they stiff you for money!
I had used voipdiscount on the same connection, with success, but they stopped supporting credit cards as a method of payment, so I looked elsewhere... to nonoh, and to another waste of time!
I had enjoyed the fact that an outgoing call was turned to an incoming call on my cellphone to allow me cheap calling during the day, that is why this was so important to me. This experience has made me hesitate to invest more money on another company!
Oh, on a final note, I've also attempted to contact betamax, and they just denied any responsibility or connection to nonoh, and offered no help whatsoever with my problem.

Nonoh provides amazing service. definitely use it. i have been using it for over a year and provided brilliant service.

much much much better than JAJAH!

Nonoh have consistently charged us for 'free calls'. Have e-mail them several times, they issue a ticket form a no reply e-mail address that says
"we have received your report. Thank you for contacting Customer Services. We will endeavour to reply as soon as possible should a customised answer be necessary."

Never hear from them again. I can only assume that their billing policy is deliberate. Use with caution.

I used to be Nohnoh customer for a while, probably 2 years or so. I was quite happy and this service worked well for what I needed it to. However, things changed. Sounds familiar?
Well, recently I purchased again 10 Euro worth of credit and since I was only able to make one hour worth of calls for free, all other calls I was charged.
I even sent an email to Nohnoh and they responded I exceeded Fair Use Policy. One hour??
Still waiting to hear from them after I sent another reply, but the first one was pure BS and should things remain that way, I would strongly discourage anyone to join this service. But I will keep you posted.
